The Petition – Join the Size Revolution
Petition: to create a sizing task force that will revolutionise the inconsistent sizing in the fashion industry affecting body confidence & mental health.
This petition stems from a deeply personal experience, shared by many others who have struggled with the inconsistent sizing in clothing. The current system of sizing labels small- xxxl , 6-24 are inconsistent, detrimental to body image, , mental health and self-worth. The labels are inconsistent & some people feel defined by the label in their clothes.
This has to change!
This inconsistency has some damaging effects on the mental health of young adults which continues into adulthood, and creates unrealistic societal norms.
Vanity sizing has been adopted by many brands and is one of the answers to why there are so many discrepancies in sizing across the industry. According to the Oxford English dictionary it is ‘the practice of assigning smaller sizes to articles of manufactured clothing than is really the case, in order to encourage sales.’ We ask that brands stop thinking about the sales of the brand and instead the mental health of the consumers and the effect that ‘vanity sizing’ on the mental health and acceptance of ones self
We are calling for a revolution in the fashion industry by creating an independent TASK FORCE working with the high street & mental health professionals to review the way we use sizing in fashion.
The SIZING TASK FORCE will work to make sizing more consistent and inclusive whilst also looking at alternative ways to create clothes in different ‘fits’ rather than sizes.
This task force will work collaboratively to ensure that sizing caters to a broad range of body types, promoting transparency within the industry.
According to studies conducted by Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management (2018), inconsistent clothing sizes can lead to negative emotional responses among consumers. It’s time we address this issue head-on.
According to the Mental Health Foundation UK, nearly 1 in 3 of us feel overwhelmed by body image issues (Mental Health Foundation UK). This is not just about clothing; it’s about societal norms that need changing.
Please join us in our mission to revolutionise fashion sizing standardised sizing, removing stigma around size labels & create an environment where everyone feels included when shopping for clothes – because everyone deserves to feel good about themselves.
Join the size revolution!
